  1. Sparkle 2.2.2 A mac-look-and-feel MPEG and QT player and converter.

  3. Whoops, so sorry. 2.2.1 had some debugging code left behind in it.
  4. This version should be safe, I hope.
  5.  
  6. This should replace Sparkle 2.2.1 and Sparkle 2.2.0 in the info-mac archives.
  7. Changes are:
  8. * All reported bugs in 2.2.0 are fixed.
  9. * MPEG encoding is faster.
  10. * A few minor slowdowns in the user interface have been sped up.
  11. * One fat application.

  13. Also in this package are a VERY rough quick and dirty port of some unix 
  14. MPEG-2 decoding code. This will allow you to see what's in an MPEG2 file 
  15. and save the result as a QT movie. Of course at some point this support 
  16. will be rolled into Sparkle but I'd like to do sound first.
  17. Be patient with this programs---in particular when it starts up, it 
  18. may sit for a minute or so looking like it's frozen before anything 
  19. starts happening. This program is based on code by Chad Fogg and the 
  20. MPEG Software Simulation Group.

  22. Also in this package is a VERY rough quicka and dirty port of a 
  23. unix MPEG demuxer. This will split a muxed MPEG file (one containing 
  24. both audio and video) into separate audio and video files. This program
  25. is based on code by Rainer Menes.

  27. This version of Sparkle
  28. * has very limited AppleScript support. Probably not yet useful, but 
  29.   that'll change soon.
  30. * does not support sound
  31. * does not support online help
  32. These are all high priorities, pretty much in that order.

  34. Thanks to the people who reported bugs in 2.2.0.

  36. As always, if you find any bug or anomaly in this code please tell me. 
  37. The sooner you tell me, the sooner I'll fix it.
  38. As always there remain a few rough edges to this program, though I hope 
  39. most of them won't be too distressing to users. Like previous rough 
  40. edges, they'll be done away with in time.

  53. WHAT IS IT?
  54. Sparkle plays MPEGs, PICTs and QT movies and converts between them. It is
  55. multifinder friendly and, with enough memory, will open multiple 
  56. documents at once.
  57. It is free.

  60. System 7 or greater.
  61. QuickTime 1.6 or greater.
  62. An 020 based mac or greater.
  63. This version requires the Thread Manager.
  64. This program on PowerMac requires ObjectSupportLib. Read the enclosed
  65.   file if you don't have it to learn how to get it.
